10 Ways to Be in the Moment This Summer

With summer officially underway and some of the longest days of the year still ahead on the calendar, we’ve been thinking about how we can make the most of the season. Here are 10 ways to be truly in the moment and to enjoy even the little things this summer (especially the little things!):

1.) Plan time once a week to see a friend you haven’t seen in a long time. (And don’t cancel at the last minute!)

2.) Host a potluck and have everyone bring something from a recipe they’ve never tried before. Culinary experimentation + socializing!

3.) Try a new class in something you have been eyeing for ages – yoga, kickboxing, dancing, painting, you name it! Go alone or bring a friend.

4.) Focus on all your senses… sleep with the windows open, walk barefoot on the sand or the grass, breathe in the smell of new flowers, rain or the freshly cut lawn, feel the sun on your skin (with sunscreen, of course!)

5.) Use your phone to actually call someone to say hi instead of texting, tweeting, or tagging them. How old school!

6.) Go stargazing on a clear night. Get away from the city lights and lie in the grass, listening to the chorus of crickets.

7.) Capture the essence of summer sunshine by making sun tea. Experiment with different flavors of tea bags or leaves and garnish with fresh lemon.

8.) Play hopscotch, hide ‘n seek, tag or any other favorite game from your childhood. Laugh. A lot.

9.) Take a last minute road trip. Go with friends and make it about the journey, not just about the destination.

10.) Roast marshmallows and make s’mores. And then have s’more.
